Snowmen at Night

Using the book, Snowmen at Night, by Caralyn Bruehner and illustrated by Mark Bruehner, my homeschool art students created snowman artwork.  We had talked about shading and value in past art classes and I wanted to give the kids an opportunity to work on mid-toned paper.  I also wanted the kids to see published work of another artist and talk about the importance of using artwork to tell a story.  How much fun would this story be without pictures?  How hard do you think it was to think up the ideas?  We discussed art techniques such as light source and composition.  I showed them how the color of the paper is in between the darkest and lightest values.  The girls set to work and here are the wonderful results.
